I first knew I wanted to play professional baseball the moment I got my first hit in Little League. The desire only grew as I continued through high school. Then I got my chance.
I signed out of high school and went on to play professionally for 12 years. After a few years in the minor leagues I made it up with the Houston Astros. I finished my career with the Atlanta Braves in 1974.
I played with and against some of the greatest of all times. I was there when Mickey Mantle hit the first home run in the Astrodome. I was a teammate when Henry Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s record.
On a personal note‚ I did it all. Maybe not as much as some‚ but from a grand slam to a walk off home run‚ to striking out to end the game‚ I missed nothing.
When it was over‚ my wife and I made Houston our home.
For over 30-plus years‚ I have had a wonderful career in marketing and advertising.
For the past 13 years I have been associated with a publicly–traded bank headquartered in Houston.
My two daughters and two granddaughters live close by‚ so family life is excellent.
When I’m not working on something creative for the bank‚ I play a little golf‚ travel‚ and just enjoy life. After a cancer scare five years ago‚ I’m just glad to be here.
